Changing of the Guard at Canadian Taxpayers Federation

Author: 2014/10/22

TORONTO, ON: The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Christine Van Geyn as its new Ontario director.

“We hired Christine for this role because of her outstanding advocacy experience and her longstanding commitment to freedom and lower taxes,” said CTF President, Troy Lanigan. “Christine will be a fierce watchdog on government waste and an outspoken promoter of lower taxes and accountability. We are excited to have her on board.”

“We are confident that Christine will be a fiscally responsible and thoughtful voice on behalf of CTF supporters,” added CTF Vice President, Communications, Scott Hennig.

Van Geyn laid out of some of CTF’s top priorities in Ontario for the coming year: “Ontarians are worried about life becoming increasingly unaffordable in this province. Whether it is a new pension plan payroll tax, rising electricity prices, or a new carbon tax proposal, Ontarians are finding this government’s hand in their pocket more often, with less to show for it.”

Ms. Van Geyn is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Trinity College, where she majored in political science and ethics, and Osgoode Hall Law School, where she earned her law degree. She also studied at New York University School of Law. Ms. Van Geyn practiced commercial litigation and corporate law in Toronto with some of Canada’s leading law firms, and is the winner of a number of international legal skills competitions. Christine has also worked for various non-profits, including the Iran Human Rights Documentation Centre.

Ms. Van Geyn is available for media interviews, speaking engagements and will write bi-weekly commentaries under the Let’s Talk Taxes banner. She is also active on Twitter (@cvangeyn).

Ms. Van Geyn replaces Candice Malcolm, who held the position since 2013.

The CTF is Canada’s leading non-partisan citizens’ advocacy group fighting for lower taxes, less waste and accountable government. Founded in 1990, the CTF has over 84,000 supporters and eight offices across Canada. The CTF is funded by voluntary, non tax-receiptable contributions. The CTF’s website is at www.taxpayer.com
